THE GIRL IN THE CLOCKWORK COLLAR GIVE AWAY!

Mrs. Grymm was recently treated with an advanced review copy of the Girl in the Clockwork Collar, the sequel to the Girl in the Steel Corset by our good friend, Kady Cross. The book is officially released in May.

I enjoyed discovering New York as imagined by Ms. Cross - its always fun to read about a familiar place and enjoy the way the author has captured it. I read most of this book on the train to the city for a meeting last week, and couldn't put it down, its a very exciting and quick read. I had to walk by the current location of the Waldorf-Astoria on my way and found myself immediately picturing Finley standing in the same spot (although, if you read the author's well researched notes Finely would have been at a different address!), as some of the action is related to the hotel. If you like intrigue, action, and good fight scenes I urge you to check out this series.

Dr. Grymm Laboratories happens to have an extra advanced review copy of the book available for giveaway! You can win the copy by leaving a comment here on the blog telling us why you want to read this book! We'll pick our favorite comment a week from today, Tuesday, 3/6. Only comments here on the blog will count so make sure to pass it on. We'll have the book signed by the author and personalized however the winner wishes.

CONTEST UPDATE! 3/6/12

It looks like we have a winner! Kady Cross has made her decision and the winner of the advanced copy of The Girl in the Clockwork Collar goes to JOHN KELLIN! Kellin Please contact us at DrGrymm@DrGrymmLaboratories.net to arrange for us getting the book to you.

I would adore having a new book to read, but, alas, I am so rarely ever able to purchase new books.

ALTERNATE ANSWER

Though this book I shall gain understanding and foresight into the world of Archaic Horology. I can feel it. Though this knowledge, I shall craft the most splediferous creations that shall be used to take over the very world and usher in a new age of steam and prosperity for all! Except Sky Krakkans... they will all die. All of them. But prosperity for EVERYONE ELSE!

The Girl in the Steel Corset was my introduction to the Steampunk genre. At first I was skeptical but now I am addicted and I can't wait to read the Girl in the Clockwork Collar. Sci-fi/Romance/Wild West/Victorian England all in one book?? Amazing!

I'm a steampunk addict. I wish I could freeze myself until this book is released. Absolutely adored Girl in the Steel Corset. I need a reprieve from all the normal romances I've been reading lately!

I would love to win a copy of the Girl in the Clockwork Collar because of how The Girl in the Steel Corset instilled such a love of Steampunk in me. It's becasue of this series that I fell in love with the Steampunk culture and all it has to offer. I was always in love with Victorian English culture but it was because of Steampunk that I grew to love it more.

I want to read it because first off GitSC was part of my top 11 in 2011 books read on my blog. I am part of the street team for GitSC. The sooner I get it the sooner I can start reading it to my 2 year old nephew so he knows what awesomeness sounds like from a young age. Also I will acquire more powers of AWESOME by reading this book as it is my life mission to become like Finley.

I loved The Girl in the Steel Corset and have been enjoying The Strange Case of Finley Jane, and am very much looking forward to this book. I like the detail with which Cross brings her alternate historic landscapes to life and the depth of her characters. I also like that this is a book/series I can share with my tween steampunk fanatic daughter.

Kady Cross is 1 of the 2 authors who got me hooked on steampunk. Finley Jayne is one of the most bad-ass female MCs I've ever been introduced to and I was immediately sucked into her story. I have been anxiously awaiting the release of The Girl in the Clockwork Collar ever since I read the last word on the last page of Steel Corset. Though release day is only a few more weeks away, it feels like the longest wait I've ever had. To have the chance to read and review this book would be one of the highlights of my blogging year. I know I'm going to be in for a fantastic story.

I'm just so absolutely in love with this story. From the moment I stumbled upon the prequel to the first book I was hooked. I've loved Steampunk for a while now and am working on a small online story with Steampunk influence. You would not believe how ridiculously excited I got when I read about Steam-powered carriages in "The Girl in the Steel Corset". I had thought I'd just made that up, but the fact that a published author had written that too just blew me away. Kady Cross is most definitely going to have an influence on my writing from now on.

I reallyreallyreallyreally want this book. I'm The Girl With No Book to Read. I loved the prequel, and am getting the actual book as soon as I can (I also happen to be thirteen- no cash). It would make my month if I got this.

I adore The Girl In The Steel Corset so much! I've tweeted before about reading it 3 times!! (And I totally got a response! YAY!!) I've convinced every single friend of mine to read it, and after doing so, most of which went out and got their own copy to re-read. I'm a college junior (for those math majors, that means I'm in my 20s) and therefore not the most conventional YA Reader, and Finley Jane is the character that convinced me that it was okay to still be a YA fan! Basically, I'm saying that picking up The Steampunk Chronicles was a great decision and I can't imagine continuing the experience any better than by winning a copy of the second book! I'm also a college kid which in most languages translates into BROKE so it'd be super awesome to save a few bucks. (Just being honest...)

Thanks! And I hope you pick me!

I picked up The Girl in the Steel Corset on a whim and couldn't put it down until I had finished it. This was the first steampunk book I have read and I fell know love with the genre. I loved her take on Jekyll and Hyde and thought that the characters were all beautifully fleshed out. I would love to win a copy of the ARC...of only to smile smugly at my sister as I brandish it beneath her nose. Then she'd probably steal itand wouldn't give ir back until she had read it first. This happens rather frequently when we both love the same books. That and when she wants to torture me.

I would absolutely LOVE to win an ARC of this novel...not only because I run a Young Adult Book Review blog (http://amidnightsummersread.blogspot.com), but because I adore steampunk novels and with Kady Cross it doesn't get much better. In fact, The Girl in the Steel Corset was one of my top reads in 2011.

*fingers crossed*

I loved it all and The Girl in the Steel Corset was definitely my favorite read of 2011. Also the first book got me into more of the steampunk genre!

Again, thank you for the giveaway! I would love it if I could read The Girl in the Clockwork Collar!!

Instead of giving a mundane comment such as: I loved this series so much! Omg, it's, like, totally my favorite!--which both statements happen to be true. I've decided to give you a fictional narrative on why you should pick me.

Ever since I can remember I've had ichthyophobia--which, if you don't know, is a less embarrassing way of saying I have a fear of fish--and it's haunted me every day of my life.
My first experience with the fear was at a local pet store when I was around 10. (I'm only 16 now) My mom started taking my little brother around, her face beaming every time she saw that mesmerized look in his eyes whenever he saw a small rodent. My dad had to be at work early that afternoon, so it left me travelling the pet store alone. I, of course, didn't mind it one bit. Freedom is rejoiced at any age.
I wandered down the fish aisle first because that was the farthest aisle from my mom and brother. At first, everything was perfectly normal. The bright colors captivated me. I even liked the plain, old goldfish! That is, until one grew to be twice as big as me.
If you can imagine it, I screamed my head off. The thing--that goldfish!--came at me. It launched at my feet, biting into my shoe. I felt the collapsing pressure and knew it would tear off my foot.
My mother came as fast as she could with my brother at her side. I cried for them to help me, to get the fish off my show, but the disbelief was clear on their faces.
"Don't you see it?" I roared, pointing down at the ogre of a fish. "It's going to kill me!"
My mom didn't say anything. There was only a flash of anger in her eyes that said I would be in for it when we got home. For what, I wasn't sure.
She grabbed my arm and dragged me off, leaving the goldfish flopping in the aisle.
Fast forward a few years (skipping past all the hospital visits and diagnoses) and there was nothing the doctors could do for me. I had a rare case of crazy and no cure. That is, I had no cure until I read The Girl in the Steel Corset. As I read it, the goldfish left me alone. It didn't come to me in my sleep anymore. It didn't follow me in the hallways at school. I felt free again.
And then I finished the book.
The goldfish, Steve, started returning to me. I tried rereading the book but I already had it memorized by heart and so it didn't deter Steve. I read The Strange Case of Finley Jayne as slow as possible, but if you've ever read anything by Kady Cross, you know that is incredibly impossible. Her writing just flows by.
And now, Steve is back. Normally, I'd try to deal with it. I'd try to ignore him. But I have a date approaching and I can't wait till May to rid Steve!
I've tried every series you can think of but none of the others work. I can't find a book as good as The Girl in the Steel Corset.
Then, I found this precious blog and I found a way to make Steve disappear from my head, if only until Kady Cross releases another book.
So, if you have it in your heart, please help me get rid of Steve so my date can be perfect. The book would mean the world to me.

And that is the most logical answer I could come up with for why I want to read THE GIRL IN THE CLOCKWORK COLLAR.
Thanks :)

-Kellin

Do i really want to read it? Or do i just want to snuggle with it? Hmmm...mostly the second one. BUT, ALAS! I would also very much like to read this book because

(A) I NEED MORE JACK DANDY! Holy heavens, is he not absolutely fantastic or is not ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!? What i'd do to that boy if he existed outside of Kady's pages and slightly insane mind! :P

(2) I need to find of if Fin gets her much deserved kissy! There was 473 pages of amazingly wonderful storytelling in The Girl in the Steel Corset...and exactly one kiss. BUT NOT FINLEY!! I NEED A FINLEY/GRIFF or FINLEY/DANDY Kiss! PLEASE!?! Ehem...i mean...please?

(3) I wanna learn more about Jasper! Annd exactly why THE HELL he was *SPOILER* arrested?! OMG WHO DID HE *SPOILER* KILL?!!? AHH! *bites nails in suspense*

(4) MOAR KICK-ASSERY! How totally superb is it that Finley can toss a grown man around like a piece of lint?! I shall admit some of my favorite moments in book1 was when Finley's dark side came out. SO. MAGNIFICENT! Yeah, Finley is an awesome main character. LOVE HER!

(5) JACK DANDY. Wait...did i already say that?!

(6) ALSO! I'm excited they're going to be in New York! What an adventure! I'll have to live vicariously through this Steampunk Squad! :)

(7) Jack Dandy? .......

The dress and the clockwork collar come with the prize as well, right? Or......... :P

Thanks for the chance to win!!

I eagerly opened up The Girl in the Steel Corset, happy to have some new Steampunk inspired fiction. I grew a bit weary when the author mentioned Twilight, but gave the book a shot anyways and was quickly drawn into the world created by Ms. Cross. I immediately went looking for the sequel and saddened to see that it had not yet been published. When I saw the post for the contest I just had to enter and take a shot at possibly getting it read it a bit sooner. Thanks!
